We have all heard of active oxygen or free radicals. Recent studies show that active oxygen is a common factor in the aging process.
What are Free Radicals?
Free Radicals (active oxygen) are a form of oxygen unlike the normal oxygen we absorb when breathing. It is very unstable and it attaches it self to other substances and then causes them to degenerate. Oxidation occurs around us all the time. If you leave out cooking oil it becomes rancid, if you leave your bike outside it rusts, if you cut an apple and leave it, it turns brown. These are all examples of things becoming oxidized. Those forms of oxidation are occurring because of normal air. Active oxygen has a power for oxidation several thousand times stronger than normal oxygen.
