Where are your products made?
All of their finished products are made in sunny Southern California, except for their lip balm which is made in New Mexico.
Are your products safe for chemically and/or color treated hair?
All Giovanni pH balanced shampoos and conditioners will gently cleanse and condition without drying or stripping most natural and color treated hair. They use mild gentle surfactants (foaming agents) and their products contain no sodium lauryl/laureth sulfates, or other harsh chemicals found in many brands.
Are your products hypoallergenic?
Hypoallergenic is a term coined by advertisers (based on the Greek prefix hypo meaning "below normal" or "slightly") and first used in a cosmetics campaign in 1953. Any consumer could at any time, find themselves allergic to any ingredient. Giovanni uses ingredients that are mild and plant based so allergic reactions are rare. However, it is recommended when using any new product to do a patch test on your skin
Do your products contain Gluten?
Their product formulations contain ingredients that are derived from a variety of sources and combinations of derivatives. They are manufactured where products with gluten are also produced. With this in mind, they cannot ensure cross contamination will not occur during the manufacturing process. They cannot explicitly guarantee that are products are gluten-free.
If you are sensitive to an ingredient or want to decrease your exposure to a specific ingredient, it is important to know exactly what your personal care products are made of before your purchase. Therefore, they suggest that you study the product in question to know what ingredients are used. Due to the chain of supply certain Giovanni products may have previous ingredient statements. Are your products Vegan?
All their products are vegan except their Lip Balms which contain beeswax and their Magnetic shampoo, conditioner, power treatment, styling gel and styling wax which contains lactoferrin.
Do any Giovanni products contain Sodium Sulfate (SLS) and Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES)?
None of the formulas contain SLS or SLES.
Do any Giovanni products contain Phthalates?
None of their products contain Phthalates.
Do your products contain artificial or synthetic fragrances?
Fragrances can refer to essential oils, synthetic fragrance or natural fragrance and each can be present by itself or in combination with each other in a product formula. With regard to fragrance the majority of Giovanni products contain only natural fragrance and essential oils. When synthetic fragrance is used in certain products it is necessary to ensure product stability.
How can I tell if my product is expired?
They print a batch code on every product that determines the production date. Please click here for an explanation of how to read the batch code. As a general rule their products have a 3 year plus shelf life.
Do you test on animals?
No they have never tested their products on animals.
Can I get Giovanni samples and coupons?
At this time they are unable to offer samples and coupons of their products. However, their health food retailers frequently have samples and/or testers available for you to try.
Does any Giovanni product contain Parabens?
No.

I have very long, thick, and wavy hair, and I have tried just about every kind of shampoo and conditioner over the years. I LOVE this stuff!! I am able to use it every hair washing (every 3-4 days for me), along with the 50/50 conditioner, and my hair feels great, smooth, conditioned without feeling heavy or oily or dry. I have yet to find another shampoo that can be used eveyday without the buildup that other shampoos leave. Great product!

This shampoo moisturizes like no other shampoo. After using it, my hair feel lighter, cleaner and more vibrant that ant other shampoo I have used.

For a shampoo not made with SLS and preservatives, this is a great product. However, I do find that I have to wash my hair one day sooner than I normally had to with the harsh shampoos (which are horrible for your scalp). Overall, this is a good narural product that gets the grease out, and keeps the scalp moisturized.

This is THE BEST shampoo I've ever tried, and I've tried a lot of different ones. This shampoo cleans really well and leaves no buildup after, it also doesn't over dry the hair/scalp. I have oily hair so I used to like Giovanni's Tea Tree shampoo, Aveda's rosemary mint, and Philip B's peppermint shampoo. But this 50:50 shampoo works BETTER for oily hair than any of the oily hair shampoos I've tried, and it's natural and at a great price too!

I use two different shampoos, both great, and Giovanni 50/50 is one of them. I have been using it for almost 8 years, and I love it as much today as I did when I first found it. It cleans my scalp without drying and leaves my long, straight hair shiny and soft. Combined with Root 66 volumizer, it is a perfect pair.

I love the 50:50 Balanced Hydrating Shampoo! You only need the smallest amount, because it goes a long way. I love how thick it is. My hair definitely feels the hydrating part of it!
