About Red Thyme - Red thyme oil is the natural essential oil produced from wild-growing thyme plants. It has an intense, sweet, herbal, spicy-medicinal aroma. Both red and white thyme are used to scent soaps, colognes and aftershaves. Caution: Thyme oil can be irritating to the skin and should be used cautiously. Nature's Alchemy requires their essential oil suppliers to verify their testing methods and supply complete quality analysis on each oil. Two of the standards used in identifying and certifying essential oils are the C.A.S. Number and the Specific Gravity of an oil. The chart on the back panel shows both for each essential oil.
The C.A.S. Number is an international Chemical Abstract Services number which is assigned to all essential oils. Each number identifies the essential oil of a specific plant which corresponds to the botanical name listed.
The Specific Gravity of an essential oil is a measurement of the weight ratio of each oil to water, which has a specific gravity of 1.0. This measurement is one of the main criteria used in verifying the purity of an essential oil.
