NuNaturals NuStevia White Stevia Powder contains the flowing agent maltodextrin, a food grade carbohydrate derived from grain. One quarter to three quarters of a teaspoon is the recommended serving. White Stevia Powder contains 60% more Stevia extract than most other brands on the market. This product is the dietary supplement form of Stevia. Maltodextrin is used to make it easier to use this product. 1/2 of a teaspoon of NuStevia White Stevia Powder will taste as sweet as 2 teaspoons of sugar. 4 tablespoons of NuStevia White Stevia Powder will be as sweet as 1 cup of sugar. 1 packet of NuStevia White Stevia Powder contains 1/2 of a teaspoon.
This product does not contain gluten. The Maltodextrin used in our White Stevia Powder products is derived from corn. The Erythritol used in our NoCarbs Blend products is derived from corn.

One serving is ½ tsp. powder (1 individual packet). It contains 80 mg of NuStevia extract and 920 mg of Maltodextrin. A very small amount of natural flavors are used.

.04%. The .04% sugar in maltodextrin is equivalent to 32 milligrams (mg).
How many milligrams (mg) of sugar are in 2 teaspoons white table sugar?
There are 8,000 mgs of sugar in 2 tsp. of white table sugar. That is 250 times more sugar than in 1 packet of NuStevia.
Why isn't sugar listed on the label of NuStevia?
It is such a minute amount that it is not considered to be significant enough to nutritionally be considered.
Why does NuNaturals need a flowing agent in the NuStevia™ White Stevia™ Powder?
NuNaturals Stevia Extract is so extremely concentrated that 1/32 tsp. is equal to 1 serving. We add maltodextrin to help the Stevia flow smoothly out of the packet. Maltodextrin also allows the Stevia to be more easily measured.
Is Maltodextrin safe for diabetics even though it is high on the Glycemic Index of food?
The American Diabetes Association (ADA), in its recently released nutritional guidelines, concludes that the Glycemic Index is not an appropriate guide for people with diabetes. ADA's experts scrutinized existing research studies on the effects of high GI diets versus low GI diets in people with type-2 diabetes. They found that a high GI diet had no adverse effect on measures of blood glucose or cholesterol. They also found that a low GI diet provided no convincing evidence of long-term benefit. These findings led to the ADA's conclusion that the total amount of carbohydrates eaten, rather than the type, determines the blood sugar response. In your meal planning and eating habits, it is OK to include a variety of carbohydrates so long as they are part of a balanced and varied meal. The important thing is to count all carbohydrates in your daily allotment.
The actual glycemic index for maltodextrin (150) is high. Dr. Allen who heads the Glycemic Index Institute, the people who first developed the glycemic index has told us that amount of maltodextrin in a serving of NuStevia™ White Stevia™ (less than a gram) will not affect blood sugar levels significantly. You would need a serving size of about 10-15 grams (10-15 packets) to have a significant impact on blood sugar levels. Eating something with protein or fat further reduces the effect of maltodextrin on blood sugar.
Unless you are using more than 15 packets of our White Stevia as one serving, it should not adversely affect your blood sugar levels. 15 packets would be the equivalent taste of a 1 1/4 cup of sugar!

What the natural flavors we use and why do we use them?
They are using natural flavors that are plant based extracts. These extracts help to increase the sense of sweetness and rounds out the flavor of our NuStevia as well as Pure Liquid Clear Stevia, Vanilla Stevia and Alcohol Free products. From endless consumer feedback, they know that people regard NuStevia products as the best tasting and sweetest products on the market. Even though we are selling Stevia as a dietary supplement, we know taste is very important to people.
The natural flavors are natural plant extracts from herbs and berries. These natural flavors do not contain any MSG (monosodium glutamate) or any other “natural flavors” that are known to cause allergic reactions in the body. Theye do scrutinize the ingredients that we use very carefully and would not use an ingredient known to cause reactions.
They do not wish to disclosure the source of the natural flavor because it is a trade secret. They have spent a lot of time researching and developing the best tasting Stevia products on the market and do not wish to share this information with other companies selling Stevia..

The Two Forms of Stevia
There are 2 forms of Stevia that are presently sold in the US. One is approved as a dietary supplement by the FDA and the other as a sweetener. NuNaturals sells both forms. Their sweetener line is called NuStevia Sweetener. The product that we have introduced is NuStevia Sweetener, Stevia Baking Blend. In the future we will introduce table top sweeteners as well.
All of NuNaturals other Stevia products are dietary supplements. Why continue to sell Stevia as a dietary supplement? The answer is complex. The form of Stevia that is FDA approved as a sweetener is an extract of Stevia that contains greater than 95% of rebaudiosides, a component of the Stevia extract. The reasons are complex why the FDA has approved one form but not the other seeing how both forms have a good deal of research regarding safety. The main reason seems to be that the rebaudioside extract is seen as an isolated compound of Stevia whereas the dietary supplement form is more of a whole extract comprising of all the components of the Stevia extract. The FDA traditionally prefers to approve single components versus multiple component compounds.
They will continue to offer the dietary supplement form based on the steviosides extract (more of a whole plant extract) for 2 reasons, taste and cost. We also believe base on safety studies and population use for decades by a very large number of people that the stevioside form of Stevia is safe.
Their dietary supplement form of Stevia has a superior taste to the rebaudioside extract. The rebaudioside extracts have a lingering somewhat unpleasant aftertaste. NuNaturals NuStevia dietary supplement products do not have any unpleasant lingering aftertastes. Most people prefer our NuStevia dietary supplement extracts to any other Stevia extract on the market including other dietary supplement forms of the Stevia extract.
Because the cost of the stevioside extract is about 7 times less expensive than the rebaudioside extract, the cost per serving is less for the dietary supplement form versus the sweetener form of Stevia when considering sweetening power of both. In order to get the same sweetness from rebaudioside products on the market, you would have to use 2-3 packets to get the sweetness of 2 tsp of sugar. With NuNaturals NuStevia packets, you would only need to use 1 packet to taste the same sweetness.
