The Original Essiac® formula is a “proprietary” combination of 4 herbs (not 8 herbs). The “proprietary” combination of these 4 herbs, in their exact ratios, help support the immune system.

Essiac® contains Burdock Root in its formula (not Yellow Dock) Used traditionally to help reduce mucus, maintain a healthy gastrointestinal tract, stimulate a healthy immune response, for weak digestion, as a diuretic for waster retention and to sweat out toxins through the skin.

Essiac® contains Indian Rubarb Root in its formula (not Turkey Rhubarb). Used traditionally in small amounts, this herb acts as a gently laxative and helps purge the liver of toxic buildup and waste.

Essiac® contains Slippery Elm (inner bark) in its formula (not Slippery Elm). Used traditionally in folk herbalism it contains large amounts of tannins and mucilages which are believed to help dissolve mucus deposits in tissue, glands and nerve channels.

Essiac® contains Sheep Sorrel in its formula (not Sorrel). Used in traditional folk herbalism to cool the body, create sweating and detoxification through the skin: as a diuretic useful in maintaining a healthy kidney and urinary functions.


Who discovered the Original Essiac®?

Essiac® was discovered in 1922, when a patient spoke to Nurse Rene Caisse of a Canadian Ojibwa Indian herbal tea she took. She eventually named the formula Essiac®, which is Nurse Caisse's name spelled backwards. Nurse Caisse ran her clinic on Dominion Street from 1934 to 1942 and continued to give Essiac® to people until the late 1970’s.

How is Essiac® packaged?

Essiac® is sold in powder, liquid and capsules formulas. The Essiac® powder will need to be brewed and prepare the old fashion way. The Essiac® extract formula is ready and can be used easily. The new Essiac® capsule formula (vegicaps) are made of the same original Essiac® formula - but they are more convenient and stay fresher longer than the Essiac® liquid and powder formulas. Vegicaps can also be opened easily and added to juice or water. The 4 herbs used to manufacture Essiac® pass strict quality control tests.


Who has the legal right to use the registered trademark Essiac®?

Essiac® Canada Int’l is the only company who has the legal right to use the Essiac® name which is a registered trademark in Canada. The Original Canadian Essiac® has been world renowned since 1922.
