Choc-o-lait, the perfect creation for all those out there who love real hot chocolate, was created in early 2004. As with most great ideas, the concept is simplicity itself: a wooden stick with a block of real Belgian chocolate on the end. Stir for a minute in a mug of hot milk (80°C) and there you have it – the tastiest hot chocolate you could ever wish for.

What came first: chocolate or the chocolate drink? As far back as the 7th century the Mayas cultivated cocoa beans and used them to make a drink. This tasted slightly more bitter than what we now call hot chocolate, but it is still fascinating to know that the first chocolate was not eaten, but drunk!
Because they prize quality so highly at Choc-o-lait, they have worked right from day 1 with their trusted partner and exclusive chocolate supplier: Callebaut.
And Callebaut isn't called the finest Belgian chocolate for nothing. As one of the handful of chocolate makers they take it upon themselves to look for the very best cocoa beans that grow near the equator. These beans are roasted and finely ground to obtain a unique cocoa solid. Texture, aromas and flavours are perfected with the addition of pure cocoa butter and other ingredients, so that the chocolate melts beautifully on the tongue. Only then does this chocolate deserve the Callebaut seal of quality. And Choc-o-lait is happy to be a part of this whole process.
Choc-o-lait was established in early 2004 and sells a new chocolate milk concept. Like most good ideas Choc-o-lait's concept is all about simplicity: a wooden stick with a cube of real Belgian Callebaut chocolate on the end. Just swirl the chocolate into a cup of hot milk for one minute and enjoy your own cup of delicious and authentic chocolate milk. The creators of Choc-o-lait (Koen Vansynghel, Frank Decuyper & Gert Verhoestraete) came up with the idea because they wanted to go back to basics, to the essence of real chocolate milk.
They chose a perfectly square cube of chocolate as a reference to an authentic block of pure chocolate.
The name simply translates as 'chocolate with milk'. Just as simple and transparent as the idea itself.
The brand name was visually adapted, by replacing the French preposition 'au' with the letter 'O'. Not only does this differentiate the brand, it also creates several possibilities in terms of development and positioning.
From its inception the creators of Choc-o-lait chose to market four different flavours (dark, milk, hazelnut and Cointreau) simultaneously in order to distinguish themselves even more from other chocolate milk brands.
Since then the brand has extended its range to 14 flavours, selling its products in over 40 countries, in different types of packaging. Choc-o-lait's target group continues to be made up of gourmet stores, chocolate stores, bakers, etc. and this will always be the case.
In the future Choc-o-lait will further extend its range with other quality products.
