About Tiesta Tea

Tiesta Tea is a story about four friends who have put their complete faith in loose-leaf tea, and how this all-natural necessity has never steered them wrong.

From childhood friends to a wild weekend in Prague, they never thought tea would be their calling. It was in some tiny Czech teahouse that they got hooked on loose-leaf tea. Three months later, they started making their own. Their professors and parents thought they were nuts, but a couple friends believed in them, blending tea in exchange for pizza and beer. They’re a tight knit crew that keeps it simple; all-natural loose-leaf tea blends with real fruits and herbs. They tell you what matters: what it does for you, what it tastes like, and how to make it. So what’s stopping you? Get rid of those boring ol’ tea bags and dive in, because once you get loose, you’ll never go bagged.

    Yerba Maté Is Just Great
Personally, I am a huge fan of yerba maté. There’s just something about that kick of energy it gives me. It’s a boost no other caffeinated drink can mimick. It keeps me alert and focused, ready to take on any problem or challenge heading my way. As my curiosity over this wonderful source of energy grew, I soon found myself searching for the reasons behind maté’s amazing ability to increase mental focus. It seems that all signs point to the superb balancing act between the caffeine and nutrients, including antioxidants, amino acids, polyphenols, vitamins and minerals found in the yerba maté plant. This balancing act not only supplies you with just enough caffeine to stimulate the brain, but also supplies the rest of your body with the nutrients it loves. Leaving any drinker feeling alert and refreshed.
The Yerba Maté Plant Is Packed Full Of Antioxidants
Many talk about all the antioxidants in green tea, but it turns out Yebra Maté contains about 90% more antioxidants than most green tea types.

    The Greatest Energy Drink. (Period)
Something I’ve read about yerba mate, that I don't think i’ll ever hear about any other caffeinated beverage is that it actually helps to reduce stress and insomnia! As I mentioned, yerba maté contains a remarkable amount of nutrients, advocates of Maté will tell you because of these nutrients the beverage will not cause any of the uncomfortable side effects often associated with other caffeinated beverages, such as headaches, stomachaches and jitters.

Great For Mental & Physical Endurance
All those helpful nutrients in yerba maté also help your body digest carbohydrates more efficiently, which means more energy from your food. Drinking yerba maté regularly also helps keep lactic acid from building up in your muscles. This is great if you’re one who likes to exercise, because lactic acid is what makes your muscles feel sore. Thus, less lactic acid, less sore muscles.

It’s Great For The Heart Too
The antioxidants and amino acids present in yerba maté help fat and cholesterol move through your bloodstream so that they don’t accumulate on artery walls. yerba maté also helps prevent hardening of the arteries that could possibly lead to a heart attack or stroke.
    Maté Keeps You Going
Due to the various vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and other chemical compounds, Maté Teas help your body and mind work at a much more efficient rate. Not only does this beverage give you a quick boost of energy from its unique caffeine source, but it also helps your body break down foods and clear your bloodstream of unwanted cholesterol and fats.
    Enhance Your Ability to Focus
Studies show that the vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, amino acids and polphenols found in maté have a balancing effect on the caffeine it contains. Drinkers of this magical beverage notice an increase of mental energy, and also also say Maté doesn’t cause any of the uncomfortable side effects associated with drinking caffeinated beverages, such as headaches, stomachaches or jitters.

    Enhance Physical Endurance
The chemical compounds found in Maté Teas help your body use carbohydrates more efficiently, which means your body will get more energy from the foods you eat. Drinking maté also helps you body burn calories stored in fat cells as fuel, which means more energy and less fat. A regular diet of maté tea also helps keep lactic acid from building up, which means less soreness and recovery time after your workouts.

    Support Cardiovascular Health
The antioxidants found in maté teas push cholesterol and fat through your bloodstream so that they don’t end up accumulating on artery walls. Maté is also known to help prevent hardening of the arteries, which prevents blood clots that may can cause serious problems such as stroke or heart attack .
Yerba Mate, a Natural Wake-up Tea
Yerba Mate, a South American tea, has gained its popularity over the last few years because of health benefits and energizing property. Similar to coffee, Yerba Mate has caffeine content that keeps people awake. The different is mate only contains half as much caffeine as coffee. This moderate amount of caffeine can provide energy and mental alertness while taking away the jittery feelings. On top of that, mate has some health benefits such as reduce cholesterol and aid digestion.

Mate, a Health Substitute for Coffee
Coffee has high level of caffeine that wakes people up in the morning. However, it may also cause jittery feeling after drinking coffee. Mate is a healthy alternative to coffee that has the same awakening effect.

Mate is a traditional South American infused drink. Comparing to coffee, which has over 100 mg per caffeine per 8 oz cup, mate contains only about 30 mg per cup. This low level of caffeine can help provide energy and prevent the jittery feeling. In addition, the mate can absorb cholesterol in your body and stimulate your immune system.

Yerba Mate – A Different Take On Caffeine
The search continues for energizing beverages. Coffee drinkers are seeking alternatives to avoid the caffeine “crash” and other unwanted side effects. Some consumers are turning to a world of chemical-rich, sugar-filled caffeinated beverages that offer the same “crash” effect as coffee without any coffee-related health benefits. Consumers looking for a healthier alternative have been catching on to a recent craze in America and longtime tradition in South America: Yerba Mate.

Yerba Mate is an herb found in the holly shrubs of South American rain forests. It’s gained godly power through it’s religious ties in Latin America and South America. In many Latin countries, mate is a popular daily drink and has become known for its boost in energy, mental clarity, and performance. It is theorized that the leaves of the mate tree contain over twenty vitamins and minerals and dozens of amino acids and antioxidants.

Drinking mate is a longtime tradition in South America and is more recently gaining interest in America. The herb is brewed just like loose leaf Tiesta Tea; with hot water and loose leaves. It contains a natural caffeine that many argue is a different form than the caffeine found in coffee. It’s believed to provide the drinker with same energizing effect of coffee without the shakes and crashes later on.

    Brewing Tea 101

    Brewing Tea Hot

    • Step 1: Scoop
A recommended amount of loose tea you’ll want to scoop is about 1.5 tsp for every 8 ounces of water. If you enjoy a rich, stronger tasting tea, don’t be afraid to let that scoop reach the bottom of the bag and repeat.
    • Step 2: Steep
It’s time to start brewing your loose tea leaves. Each tea type is brewed at a different time and temperature. If you’re not familiar with how long you should let your tea steep, refer to the Temps & Times section at the top of this page for a chart of tea types and their brewing instructions.
    • Step 3: Escape
After you’ve poured in your water and let your tea steep, it’s time to remove the loose tea leaves and enjoy the delicious health benefits of all- natural loose tea. Remember, brewing tea is an art form! There is no right or wrong way to do this, so keep trying different methods of steeping and continue to discover the amazing benefits of loose leaf tea.

    Brewing Tea Iced

    • Step 1: Scoop Double
When brewing iced tea, you’ll want to steep a stronger, more concentrated tea. The recommended amount of loose leaf tea is 3 tsp for every 8 oz of water. It may take some tweaking to get the taste you desire, but that’s half the fun!
    • Step 2: Steep
Now that you’ve tossed in double the amount of loose tea, brewing iced tea is identical to brewing a hot cup of tea. Just follow the recommended “Times & Temps” chart above. Make sure to remove your loose tea leaves at the recommended time, to make sure your tea leaves don’t burn.
    • Step 3: Escape
Remove your loose tea leaves and pour over ice. Your tea concentrate should melt the ice and dilute down to a full flavored iced tea. You may need to add extra ice to the hot tea to accelerate the cool down process.

    Tips & Tricks

    • Makeshift Filter
If you ever find yourself without a loose tea brewer, don’t panic! Chances are, something you can use to infuse your tea is within reach. You may just have to get a little creative. One of the most practical choices is using an everyday coffee filter. Just scoop your loose tea into an empty coffee filter and tie shut the top with string or twine (anything that will stay uncompromised by boiling water). This process can be applied to anything that will allow water to seep in and steep your loose tea leaves. Just make sure whatever paper towel or cloth you are using isn’t treated by any sort of chemicals.
    • Reusable Kcup
The ease of tossing in a cup and pushing a button has allowed single serve brewing machines to find their rightful place on the countertops of kitchens all across the globe. This extremely simple process can be used to brew your loose tea leaves as well! All you need is a reusable K-Cup. Just scoop in your loose tea leaves, pour in some water, push the button and voilá! Your cup of all natural loose leaf tea is ready to go!
    • Cool Down
When it comes to brewing loose tea leaves, the most common question seems to always be “How do I know what temperature my water is?” Here is a tip to help make your brewing experience easier. First, bring the water to a boil. As soon as your water maintains a steady “roll”, the temperature will generally be around 208 degrees Fahrenheit. If the instructions call for 195 degree water like in black tea or oolong tea, just add an average sized ice cube for every 16 oz. of water. If your tea calls for 175 degree water, add two ice cubes for every 16 oz. This works wonders if you don’t have a thermometer.
    • Resteep
Steep your loose tea leaves again and again. When tea leaves are resteeped, they often release more flavor and nutrients the second, third or even fourth time steeped.
      • White teas become slightly sweeter with each resteep.
      • Green teas, especially ones tightly wound or twisted, often taste better after the first or second steep.
      • Oolong teas often reveal more character nuances every resteep.
      • Most herbal and fruit teas provide the most flavor on the first steep. The second one can still be pretty good though!
    • A Little Lemon
The next time you’re looking for something to add a little flavor to your cup of tea, grab a fresh lemon. A little squeeze of a ripe lemon not only adds a refreshing splash of citrus, it also reveals some of the more subtle flavor nuances hiding in your cup of loose tea.
