    What is IBS?
Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a functional disorder of the intestines that results in abdominal cramping, bloating, diarrhea, and/or constipation. Not everyone with IBS has all of these symptoms, but it is estimated that about 20% of Americans have IBS in some form. U.S. data show that women are 2 to 3 times more likely than men to be affected by IBS. Some people with IBS may miss school, work, or social activities because of their symptoms. In fact, IBS is the second-leading cause of absenteeism in the workplace.

    What causes IBS?
The cause of IBS is still unknown. People with this disorder are thought to have abnormal contractions of the intestines, although the intestines are otherwise healthy. These abnormal muscle contractions can lead to diarrhea and/or constipation and abdominal pain.

Several factors are thought to contribute to IBS symptoms, including:

    • Emotional stress
    • Eating habits
    • Elevated hormone levels (in women)

    How IBS Causes Diarrhea:

    • Stool leaves intestines too quickly
    • Not enough fluid is absorbed from the stool

    How IBS Causes Constipation:

    • Stool leaves intestines too slowly
    • Too much fluid is absorbed from the stool

    How is IBS treated?
As a first step in controlling IBS, your doctor may look for risk factors such as emotional stress, inadequate fiber intake, consumption of fatty foods, caffeine, alcohol, carbonated drinks, or lactose intolerance (the inability to properly digest dairy products). If changing your lifestyle or diet doesn't eliminate symptoms, your doctor may recommend taking a fiber therapy product such as FiberCon for relief of constipation.

For people who don't have sufficient relief with fiber therapy, doctors may prescribe different types of drugs that can help treat IBS symptoms.

How does FiberCon relieve IBS symptoms?
FiberCon helps relieve constipation associated with IBS. FiberCon does not ferment, so it will not cause gas or bloating. FiberCon helps restore the natural balance in the intestines, relieving constipation by drawing fluid into the stool.

How FiberCon Helps Relieve Constipation: Draws fluid into the stool, adding bulk to the stool.

    FAQ

Can I take FiberCon with a low-carb diet?
Yes. By chemical definition, calcium polycarbophil is not a carbohydrate and will not increase the blood sugar level when ingested. It is an excellent product for addressing occasional constipation that may arise with dietary changes.

Why should I take the FiberCon brand versus other manufacturers' products?
FiberCon comes in convenient caplets and is an easy way to relieve constipation and restore regularity for good digestive health. Each caplet has the natural action of fiber and contains no chemical stimulants or preservatives, so it works naturally to restore regularity and relieve constipation. The active ingredient in FiberCon, Calcium Polycarbophil, does not ferment in the colon, and so does not cause painful or embarrassing gas. FiberCon also contains 244mg of calcium per 2-caplet dose.

I am traveling abroad. What other countries will carry this product? Is it the same?
FiberCon is not widely available internationally. It is recommended that you plan ahead for any trip you are taking by bringing FiberCon with you.

What is the history of FiberCon?
FiberCon has been on the market since January of 1987, and is one of the first bulk-forming laxatives offered in a caplet form.

    What are the competitors' products?
FiberCon competes with other products in the bulk-forming laxative category.
