Glob uses all natural and organic ingredients from a variety of different fruits, vegetables, flowers, and spices. Glob paints
contains gum arabic (a natural watercolor binder), with all-natural botanical food colors that have been used in arts & crafts since
historic times. Glob color pigments come from beets, purple carrots, turmeric, and red cabbage, as well as beta-carotene from either oranges,
tomatoes, carrots, or marigolds.
Another orange source is the annatto seed, a natural herb that has been used for centuries by indigenous tribes and can be traced as far
back as the ancient Mayans. Annatto's deep orange color is used today in cosmetics and to color cheddar cheese! Other color sources
include the sticky orange pulp of the gardenia fruit, and chlorophyll, which is extracted from alfalfa to make a grassy green.
Glob's botanical colors and all natural ingredients are commonly used in foods today.
Glob paints and natural colors were developed first and foremost with safety and sustainability in mind. Using natural plant extracts and
botanical pigments, their water-based paints are biodegradable and non-toxic.
more about paints You may have noticed that arts and crafts products do not list ingredients. Consumers rely upon "non toxic"
certification, believing that their art materials have undergone sufficient testing to ensure the products they use are safe. Don't let these labels
fool you. Art pigments (colors) are commonly made from petrochemicals, and the actual hazards of these materials are not always known. In
the US, synthetic pigments that have never been tested for toxicity can be labeled "non-toxic." The rationale? There is no data to
Arts and crafts paints often contain a host of toxic ingredients like formaldehyde (a carcinogen), one of the most common paint
preservatives. New environmental regulations and consumer demand has contributed to the numerous low to no VOC (volatile organic
compounds) and environmentally friendly house paints now available. Unfortunately, the artist market is far behind.
Paints may not only be hazardous to the consumer, but also the environment. Certified "non-toxic" pigments can still be toxic to
fish and other wildlife. Glob products are sustainable and biodegradable, making them safe to wash down the sink and into our water supply.
Glob conforms to US safety standards and the comprehensive requirements of: Europe, Canada, Australia.
Where are their paints made? Their paints are manufactured in the US, in California.
Do their paints stain? They did a comparison between GLOB and "washable" paints and the results were about the same. Both left slight
staining with certain colors, but washed out fairly well.
GLOB paints are made from fruits and veggies, so you might expect the same type of subtle stain from spilled juice. They always
recommend wearing painting clothes, so you can glob it on worry-free.
How long do the paints last once mixed? Glob paints are best if used fresh. They recommend that you use only as much pigment powders as needed for one painting session.
However, the paint should be able to keep for weeks or even months, but the color wet will become less vibrant over time. So again, fresh is
Can you eat them? Their paints are not intended for consumption. While the ingredients are food and cosmetic-grade, the colors are concentrated and
have a gum arabic base, which isn't very tasty.
Can I use GLOB as face paint? Their paints are similar to watercolors, and do not cover the skin like a face paint. The colors, such as beets, will slightly stain the
How can I thicken the paint? To thicken Glob paint, add a little starch (corn, arrowroot powder) or a non-gluten flour. Regular wheat flour doesn't mix
Will the colors fade? Like other arts and crafts-grade paints, GLOB colors can fade over time with exposure to direct UV light.
While they chose the most lightfast, non-toxic, botanical pigments we could find, GLOB paints are not archival quality, and are not
recommended for professional artists.
GLOB paints are similar to a watercolor. The pigments are best used to color your globjets d'art, such as painting on paper, collage,
wood stain, play dough, paper-mache and more...
If you believe you or your child is the next Picasso or Jackson Pollock, you may want to try another, professional paint with questionable
Can I dye my clothes? No, GLOB pigments are water-soluble painting pigments, not clothing dyes. Dyes require a mordant to set the color to the fabric,
many of which are toxic.
Can I paint my walls with GLOB?
GLOB performs like a transparent watercolor, not a wall paint with opaque coverage.

Safety Glob strives to raise awareness about the regulation of non-toxic art products. Most consumers rely on "non-toxic"
certification, unaware that in the US, synthetic pigments that have never been tested for toxicity can still be labeled "non-toxic".
Manufacturers are not required to list ingredients and "non-toxic" paints often contain numerous chemical additives, like the
carcinogen formaldehyde, one of the most common paint preservatives.
Eco-Consciusness Their natural paint blends minimize manufacturing processes to reduce environmental impact. The dry powder pigments save weight
and energy when shipped. They strive to use minimal packaging and keep their ingredients and all the materials they use biodegradable. Glob
uses recycled paper and vegetable and soy inks. They manufacture their paint packets at a facility certified by the Natural Products

About the Founder
Being an artist, I was exposed to all kinds of art paints and products. And though I had reactions to the chemical additives, I
suffered through it, thinking it just came with the territory.
But in recent years, with all the new information about chemicals in cosmetics and other products we eat with, drink out of, or our children
play with, I began to wonder why arts and crafts were not being scrutinized in the same way.
A few years ago, when my chemist friend dropped by with a house paint he was developing from cactus, I also wondered why there were
low VOC and eco-friendly alternatives for house paints, but not natural, or sustainable products for the arts?
And so the seed was planted and I began to search for natural art pigments—a fun endeavor, because I simply love color.
I developed Glob Paints, using only natural, botanical sources for our colors, such as herbs, seeds, fruits, and vegetables. I found these
pigments to be the most vibrant, as well as having been used safely and effectively for color since the beginning of time.
