Newman's Own Organics Fig Newmans Fat Free is the first fig bar made with organic figs, organic sugar, organic flour, and without hydrogenated oils. The new cookie wouldn't have come to fruition without the cooperation of Kraft, as the name is being used under license from them. "We really salute Kraft for all their help with their Fig Newmans," states Paul Newman. "People loved the name, but without Kraft's consent we never could have created this product." continues Nell.

Such practices may include a combination of crop rotations, rotational grazing of livestock, cover crops, intercropping, green manures, recycling of plant and animal wastes, tillage, and judicious application of essential mineral nutrients.

Biological diversity is a key ecological precept, essential to stability and therefore to sustainability. Diversity must be enhanced in every aspect of organic production, including the selection of inputs, crop varieties, livestock breeds, rotation cycles and pest management strategies. The principle of diversity can be similarly applied to personal skills, social interactions, and economic decisions.
Recycle materials and resources to the greatest extent possible within the farm and its surrounding community as part of a regionally organized agricultural system.
Organic systems intensively manage the individual farm system and use biologically-based inputs in preference to petroleum-based inputs. Soil and plant nutrients depleted through cropping and natural leaching are replenished by nutrient sources from within the farm and the surrounding community. Energy expended in transportation, manufacturing and handling of agricultural inputs and products is minimized to the greatest extent possible.
Provide attentive care, that meets both health and behavioral requirements of farm animals.
Farm animals must be managed to prevent health problems through a focus on diet, housing, handling and observation. Organically produced feed, in conjunction with care and living conditions which minimize stress, is the foundation of a health promoting management system. Attentive care for the healthy animal is a fundamental precept of organic livestock management.
Maintain the integrity and nutritional value of organic food and processed products through each step of the process from planting to consumption.
Organically grown food and processed products must be processed, manufactured, and handled to preserve their healthful qualities and maintain the principles of the organic management system. Ingredients, additives and processing aids used in organic processed products must be consistent with the overall principles or organic production. Consumers should be provided with the assurance that products bearing organic labels are certified organic by independent verification from seed through sale.
Develop and adopt new technologies with consideration for their long range social and ecological impact.

No, the WFDF Fig Newmans are not gluten free. Barley, rice, and corn flours are used in their production which contains gluten.
What type of flour is used in Newman's Own Organics Cookies?
Organic unbleached wheat flour is used in their Newman-O's, Champion Chip Cookies, and Fig Newmans (except the Wheat Free Cookies). Organic brown rice flour, organic corn flour and organic barley four are used in the Wheat Free, Dairy Free Cookies.
Are dairy, soy, peanuts or their derivatives used in Newman's Own Organics cookies?
Fig Newmans are the only cookies that contain dairy. Both the Fat Free and Low Fat contain Non-Fat Dry Milk. Peanut Butter Newman-Os contain peanuts. Additionally, all of their cookies are run on production lines that contain dairy, peanuts or their derivatives, Fig Newmans are run on production lines that contain dairy, tree nuts and peanuts. What is the organic sugar used in their Family Recipe and Alphabet Cookies?
The sugar is from dehydrated cane juice that goes through a crystallization process. No bone char is used in the processing of their sugar.
Are Newman's Own Organics cookies kosher?
All NOO cookies are kosher. They are certified kosher by the Orthodox Union.
What does the OUD on the front of the Newman-Os and ABCs packaging stand for?
Although there is no dairy in these products, the certifying rabbi assigns the OUD symbol to signify that there are dairy materials present in the production facility.
Do they use iodine in Newman's Own Organics cookies?
No, they don't use iodized salt or iodine in any of their cookie products.
Do Newman's Own Organics cookies contain corn or corn by-products?
Corn syrup is present in all the Fig Newmans. Corn starch is added to the powdered sugar used in the creme filling of their Newman-O's. Their Champion Chip Cookies are made with corn syrup solids as well. There is no corn or corn byproducts in any of the ABC cookies except in their Wheat Free/Dairy Free ABC Chocolate Cookies, although other products containing these ingredients are manufactured in their plants.
Is the palm fruit oil they use hydrogenated?
Palm shortening is not hydrogenated and does not contain trans-fatty acids. They use palm fruit which is cold press extracted.
