The Environment
Vital Nutrients takes many steps to preserve the earth's precious natural resources and reduce their company
footprint. The Vital Nutrients facility is a temperature controlled building that utilizes individual automatically
timed thermostats throughout the building. This thermostat maintains optimal temperatures for product quality,
saves energy each day, and reduces their carbon footprint.
Three years ago Vital Nutrients installed a new lighting system which saved 57,191 kWh. This savings is
equivalent to 260,706 pounds of coal not burned, or 33,519 gallons of oil not burned, or 60 homes provided with
electricity each year. In addition, the project eliminated the following environmental emissions: 1,030 pounds of
sulfur oxide, 274 pounds of nitrogen oxides, and 557,910 pounds of carbon dioxides.

Here are a few of the other
ways Vital Nutrients has reduced their company's carbon footprint:
- Indoor and outdoor lighting is motion-controlled which also helps reduce energy consumption.
- Use plastic instead of glass for all of their temperature stable products.
- Plastic uses less energy than glass to manufacture and recycle.
- Their plastic bottles are easily recycled.
- Plastic weighs less, reducing transportation fuel.
- They minimize the plastic content by using the smallest size bottles for each product. Plastic requires
significantly less packaging materials for shipping.
- Their research found optimum density plastic bottles that use the lowest amount of plastic while
protecting their products.
- Their entire supplement containers are recyclable.
- They used sustainably harvested raw materials whenever possible.
- They request recyclable inbound containers from their vendors.
- Their shipping department uses only recyclable boxes and packing paper, and biodegradable packaging.
- Their catalogs are printed on FSC certified paper.
- Wind power is exclusively used by their printing company.
- They offer CD catalogs to reduce paper.
- Their new comprehensive website helps to reduce paper and forms.
- They are continually going paperless and have invested in several electronic documentation systems.
- Their policy is to print on both sides of paper and to print in economy mode to save ink and ink cartridges.
- They use pressure washing devices to converse water.
- Their internal recycling program includes: paper, cardboard, printer cartridges, batteries, glass, plastics,
cans, and electronics.
Frequently Asked Questions
Where are your products manufactured?
Vital Nutrients' products are manufactured in Connecticut, in a highly-controlled, temperature-
regulated manufacturing facility that is certified by the NPA and has been inspected by the FDA.
Are your supplements hypo-allergenic?
Yes, unless otherwise stated on the label.
Do your supplements contain gluten?
No, Vital Nutrients' supplements are gluten free.
Are your bottles BPA free?
Yes. Vital Nutrients' bottles are HDPE. In addition to confirmation from their bottle supplier, they
have had their bottles tested by a third party lab to verify that they are indeed BPA-free.
Why do you use capsules instead of tablets?
Capsules are more easily digested, making the nutrients more readily available in the body. Tablets
typically consist of only 25-50% active ingredients. The remainder of the tablet is composed of fillers, binders,
lubricants, disintegrants, surfactants, and a coating often made of pthlates and shellac. Capsules allow for
shorter and cleaner ingredient lists.
Can you make a calcium supplement that is in a smaller capsule?
The elemental calcium content of calcium citrate/malate is only about 20%, so a large capsule is necessary
to provide an optimal dose of calcium.
Are your products GMO free?
Yes. Vital Nutrients take two steps to ensure GMO-free status for any susceptible ingredients. First, they
require a GMO free statement from the ingredient supplier. Second, they have every batch of every susceptible
ingredient tested for GMO markers at a 3rd party lab that specializes in genetic testing.
Are your capsules vegetarian?
Vital Nutrients uses vegetarian capsules in many products, but some compatibility issues prohibit them
from using them for every product.
What is the source of your gelatin capsules?
Vital Nutrients' gelatin capsules are sourced from bovine and/or porcine. All of their capsules are
pharmaceutical grade.
Do you test your Fish Oil for Mercury and PCBs?
Vital Nutrients test every batch of Fish Oil for a full range of contaminants which includes: mercury,
lead, cadmium, arsenic , PCBs, Dioxins and Dioxin-like compounds, rancidity markers, and microbiology.
Are your supplements organic?
Many of Vital Nutrients ingredients are not available as certified organic. They test every batch of every
herbal material for 159 herbicide, pesticide, and fungicide residues to ensure their products do not contain these
harmful compounds.
Can pregnant women take your supplements?
Some of Vital Nutrients' products may be beneficial to pregnant women. Since they are a professional
supplement manufacturer, they leave it up to the healthcare provider to determine which products are appropriate
for pregnant patients.
Do you make children’s vitamins?
Vital Nutrients have several great products for Children's Health.
The Leader in Quality Assurance
Quality Assurance and Quality Control are the number one priority at Vital Nutrients. Their supplements provide
clinical effectiveness through proven quality.

How Vital Nutrients
is Different
Quality Assurance and Quality Control are the top priority at Vital Nutrients
At Vital Nutrients, no corners are cut when it comes to quality assurance. They provide comprehensive
proof – and fully guarantee – that their products are prepared in accordance with the highest standards of
manufacturing practice and laboratory quality assurance. To attain laboratory quality assurance (no easy
task), they audit and verify each of their independent laboratories to ensure that they follow scientifically valid
analytical methods and ethical lab practices. They also research the scientific validity and reliability of
laboratory test methods. As a result, only laboratories that use proper reference standards or scientifically valid
testing methods are allowed to test our products. Vital Nutrients' goal is maximum clinical effectiveness
through proven quality. There are two keys to producing consistent clinical benefit and value: excellent raw
materials and finished product quality. That’s why they have assembled a team of qualified health professionals to
formulate their products, and use only bona fide research – including published human and/or animal-based studies –
to test them. Their team of health professionals works to ensure that the raw materials they use produce the best
clinical outcomes and that their products contain true therapeutic doses of the most beneficial active
materials.
Vital Nutrients is the Industry Leader for Quality
Vital Nutrients' quality assurance and manufacturing practices are far superior to those
of other nutritional supplement manufacturers. They are audited and independently certified for compliance with FDA
Current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) and by the Natural Products Association (NPA), one of the leaders in
natural product GMP manufacturing quality assurance certification in North America. They meet or exceed the FDA’s
cGMP Guidelines for nutritional supplements, which cover authenticity, potency and purity testing of raw materials
and finished products, quarantine/release procedures, employee training, cleanliness of the facility,
documentation, and other areas. They follow detailed written Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) to ensure
consistency and safety in every aspect of their manufacturing process.
Independent Testing of Raw Materials for:
- Microbiology
Vital Nutrients quarantines all purchased raw materials and independently tests for total aerobic
bacterial count, yeast and mold counts, Salmonella species, E. coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus
aureus.
- Identification, Authenticity and Potency
Vital Nutrients' quality assurance department is constantly expanding its knowledge to choose the most
reputable labs and scientifically valid testing methods and reference standards. Their raw materials and finished
products are tested by highly qualified personnel using appropriate sample preparation, instrumentation, ethical
and valid scientific testing methodology and authentic reference standards. When raw materials do not meet they
specifications, they are rejected.
- Chemical Solvent Residue
Vital Nutrients independently laboratory tests all raw materials for chemical solvent residue. Many
vitamins, minerals, amino acids and botanical products are manufactured using one or more chemicals or chemical
solvents. Currently the natural products industry has no limits on chemical or solvent residue allowed in natural
products. Vital Nutrients complies with the pharmaceutical industry’s standard limits for residual chemical
solvents.
- Heavy Metals
All botanical products are tested for presence of lead, mercury, cadmium, and arsenic. Minerals and
other raw materials prone to toxic metal contamination are tested for lead.
- Herbicide, Pesticide and Fungicide Residue
Every botanical product we use is tested for residual amounts of a variety of herbicides, pesticides
and fungicides. Vital Nutrients' independent lab uses methods developed by the California Department of Food
and Agriculture (CDFA). The State of California uses these same methods in its enforcement programs to determine
the presence of numerous pesticides in a variety of crops. They test for 61 different Organochlorines, 75
Organophosphates and Organonitrogens, 12 Carbamates, and 11 Pyrethroids.
- Aflatoxin Residue
The US FDA has set a limit of less than 20ppb for total aflatoxins in food and feed. Every botanical
product Vital Nutrients buys is tested for residual amounts of aflatoxins and must meet their specification
before they allow the material to be used in production.
Independent Testing of Oil Products:
Vital Nutrients' lipid softgel products are tested for primary oxidation by-products
(peroxide levels) and secondary oxidation by-products (anisidine levels). A high level of either is indicative of
rancidity of long chain fatty acids. It is critical to test for both as peroxides are transitory and can drop to a
low level as they transform into secondary oxidation by-products (anisidines).
Independent Testing for Dioxins & Dioxin-Like Compounds:
(All Fish Oils) Dioxin is a generic term used to describe a family of 210 compounds. Vital
Nutrients' tests for the most dangerous of this family -- the 17 members characterized by the presence of
chlorine atoms in the 2, 3, 7, and 8 positions. Each of those 2, 3, 7, 8-substituted congeners has been assigned a
Toxic Equivalent Factor (TEF), which is used for the computation of the Toxic Equivalency Quotient (TEQ). This
scale is used in risk assessment studies to calculate the probability of causing cancer and other life threatening
diseases in humans.
Independent Testing for PCBs:
(All Fish Oils) PCBs (Polychlorinated Biphenyls) are no longer produced in the United States, but are
still found in the environment. Health effects that have been associated with exposure to PCBs include acne-like
skin conditions in adults and neurobehavioral and immunological changes in children. PCBs are known to cause cancer
in animals. The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) has concluded that PCBs may reasonably be anticipated
to be carcinogens. The EPA and the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) have determined that PCBs are
probably carcinogenic to humans. Vital Nutrients minimizes Dioxin and PCB exposure with its parts per trillion
assay method and very strict acceptance criteria.
Finished Product Expiration Date & Stability-Testing Program
Vital Nutrients was the first professional natural product manufacturer to put into place a finished
product, expiration date, and stability-testing program. This program provides them with independent laboratory
test data points to guarantee that their products meet 100% of label claim and validates our published expiration
date. They publish expiration dates based on third-party test data to support such a date. Their new products are
given manufactured dates until they have sufficient data to ensure product stability through the expiration date.
However, from their experience and testing, products with manufactured dates may be good for at least twelve
months. To authenticate this dating on an ongoing basis, Vital Nutrients puts their products through analytical and
microbiological tests as well as visual inspections. Independent laboratories test their finished products to
ensure label claim potency. They then repeat the tests on a retained sample from the same lot at mid- and end-
points of expiration date to check label claim potency. They also test for rancidity markers on their oil products
at each stability test point. Manufactured finished products are routinely tested to authenticate expiration
dates. Vital Nutrients' independent lab testing verifies purity, potency, and label claim. At each data
point they evaluate the potency of the product to see if they need to add an overage to make up for any deficiency
in potency or alter the expiration date. Of course, this is in addition to the testing they do on every batch of
raw materials to ensure authenticity, potency, and lack of contamination prior to manufacturing.
Manufacturing Excellence
Vital Nutrients manufactures its supplements in a clean, strictly controlled facility. They know precisely
what goes into their products, and more importantly they know what is not in their products. This allows them to

undesirable additives. They facility is staffed with a full time Quality Assurance and Quality Control Manager and
Quality Control personnel to ensure consistent compliance with their industry leading comprehensive quality system
and FDA Good Manufacturing Practices. You can depend upon Vital Nutrients to provide the finest quality natural
