FAQ's About Skoy Cloth:
How long does a SKOY cloth last?
Since Skoy is reusable and washable it can last a very long time, some people still use them after a year. A normal life cycle of a Skoy Cloth starts in the kitchen to wipe countertops and table tops. After using the Skoy for a week or two in the kitchen, it can be renewed in the washer and “downgraded” for indoor cleaning such as floors, bathrooms, etc. After a few months in this stage, being washed a couple of times, the Skoy can then be used for outdoor messes, such as wiping patio furniture as well as for garage use. This is the great thing with Skoy, it can be used over and over again.
Will my SKOY cloth shrink if I wash it or dry it in a dryer?
Skoy Cloth consists of cotton and cellulose and, as you may have experienced when washing clothes made out of cotton, cotton may shrink a little if washed in high temperatures or when run in a dryer at high temperatures. As such, the Skoy Cloth may shrink when washed or more commonly when dried in a dryer.
My SKOY shrunk when I washed/dried it, can I still use it?
YES! If your Skoy Cloth has shrunk be assured it still works great. You will also notice that once you wet the Skoy cloth it will return back to approx the original size.
Will my SKOY cloth be ruined if I wash it often?
No, the Skoy Cloth can last over 50 wash cycles if using a normal detergent; they have many customers that have used the Skoy cloth daily for over a year. Having said that, it is always a good feeling to use a Skoy Cloth for the first time.
On what surfaces can I use a SKOY?
Skoy works best on hard surfaces, such as counter tops, table tops, bookshelves, etc.
Can I use SKOY to clean furniture upholstery or to suck up a stain from a carpet?
Skoy is mainly intended for hard surfaces. If you want to try to use Skoy on textile surfaces then they recommend to use their white Skoy, since in rare cases a colored SKOY could discolor the textile.
Can I use SKOY in other places besides the kitchen?
Yes. Skoy customers use the Skoy in many places: kitchen, bathroom, office, garage, boat, automobile, patio, camping, etc.
What is the difference between SKOY and a microfiber cloth?
The biggest difference is that Skoy is made from natural materials and is 100% biodegradable, while microfiber cloths are made from synthetic materials. In other words, Skoy is more earth-friendly. Skoy's experience also show that a Skoy Cloth absorbs liquids better than a microfiber cloths and as such is superior for kitchen use. Finally, they think that Skoy feels better in your hand when using it.
How is SKOY a greener cleaning solution than paper towels, both end up on the landfill and both are biodegradable?
It is true that both Skoy and paper towels end up on the landfill (unless you have a compost) and that both are biodegradable. However, there is a big and important difference a paper towel you can only use once, while a Skoy can be used over and over again. In an average household, each Skoy Cloth saves 15 rolls of paper towels!
About Skoy Cloth:
Their story is quite simple. They had a desire to share a cloth that is better than any cloth they have ever used and was environmentally friendly. They started to do a little research and were shocked to see how people were cleaning their kitchens. They were even more shocked to find out how many tons of paper towels were being used annually (2.5 million tons) and filling up most landfills. They are two stay-at-home moms living in Encinitas, California. Their children have begun Elementary school and they have a little extra time. They decided that this would be the perfect time to start their business.
They have been working and researching for almost a year on their product. They have such passion for this cloth because they believe that it is the best thing out there. ‘The idea originated when Michelle was living in Europe in the late 90’s. She discovered a product that was similar to the Skoy Cloth and it was just amazing. Over time she found the cloth to be indispensable. When she moved back to the US, she realized that the use of a sponge was inadequate and the excessive use of paper towels, wasteful. Michelle searched and searched for a similar cloth and nothing even compared; nothing was of the same caliber. This is when Michelle introduced the cloth to Karen. She immediately fell in love with it and could not imagine cleaning with anything else.’
They then put heads together and discussed a way to bring this product to the US with the requirement that it meet their high standards. Now they are so excited to be able to offer the Skoy Cloth to you—which is everything that they had hoped it would be.
How they got their name
Looking for a name proved challenging. After looking for a long time, they found a word that is the philosophy of their business. Skoj (pronounced Skoy) is a Swedish word that means: “just for fun”! What a perfect word for their business. In other words, they wanted a business that they could have fun doing and at the same time would bring fun to the kitchen. With really cool designs they think they have accomplished this, while still doing their part to take care of the Earth.
