Background About Lidtke L-Tryptophan Chewable
It is well-known that European pharmaceutical standards for L-Tryptophan are far higher than U.S. or Japanese standards. The Europeans take safety seriously, as does Lidtke. The European standard not only demands testing for known toxins that are ignored in the U.S. and Japan, but European standards have much lower limits on contaminants, overall. Although many products claim to meet pharmaceutical standards, clearly not all pharmaceutical standards are the same – not even close.
From Lidtke's beginning sixteen years ago, it has been their crusade to meet the highest standards in the world. They question everything, and they look beneath the surface. The world changes, and it takes work to keep up. That is Lidtke's job: to stand between the consumer, and the nearly incomprehensible chaos of the nutrition world.
In the world of life sciences, serotonin is one of the biggest celebrities. Tens of thousands of prescriptions are being written every day for pills that fool your body into thinking it has more serotonin than it does. There is little doubt about it, serotonin has become a goldmine for the pharmaceutical industry.
People need serotonin, it is true. All the surveys and all the psychometric testing could not make it more clear: our country needs to calm down, get some sleep and stop eating so much carbohydrates. But there are two vastly different approaches to making your body think it has more serotonin. One is to mimic it. The other is to make it. What is puzzling is that with all the articles being written about serotonin, you might think the public would be more familiar with L-tryptophan. There’s really no better, no more-natural way to make serotonin.
What exactly does serotonin do that makes it so important? Serotonin is a neurotransmitter, and neurotransmitters trigger the signals that pass through your neurons. In other words, neurons are a channel of communication in your body, but different types of neurons send different signals. The neurons that produce serotonin from L-tryptophan, for example, promote feelings of well being, calm, personal security, relaxation, confidence and concentration. However, your body also has contrary neurons that produce noradrenaline and similar, excitatory hormones. This family of hormones is associated with tension, anger, aggression, obsessive-compulsive behaviors, violence, sleeplessness, fear and cravings.
To say that the whole country is suffering from an L-tryptophan deficiency is more than speculation. Years of research into eating habits, combined with the chemical analysis of blood samples from hundreds of patients all over the country, reveal that of all the essential amino acids, L-tryptophan is most lacking.
Unfortunately, the amount of L-tryptophan in food is small. In addition, many people have food sensitivities or full-blown allergies to grains or dairy products, and many are not too keen on meats. So, logic would tell us that it may be of no help to have L-tryptophan in a food if you cannot digest the food. For this reason, Lidtke takes pride in producing the finest L-tryptophan supplements available.

Unique Product Formulation & Ingredients
Lidtke performs its own research and development of new product formulations. As a further sign of our commitment to the health of their customers, Lidtke chooses to work with the most respected manufacturers of fine ingredients and raw materials. For example, testing conducted at some of the most advanced independent laboratories, including laboratories at the United States Food and Drug Administration, consistently confirm that their raw materials are among the “purest in the world.”
While some companies may “shop” for independent laboratories that “manipulate” the data to make a product look pure, they never trust the numbers. They dissect the data for flaws in analysis, and they work with scientists who know what they are doing and take pride in their work.
Lidkte believes that a guarantee should be simple, and they genuinely hope that all of their products will benefit your family’s health and help you live a more abundant life.
Lidtke Frequently Asked Questions
Does the weather have any effect on Lidtke products during shipping?
The only product that is particularly sensitive to temperature is Lidtke NADH powder. For this product, 2nd day shipping with a cold pack is recommended in order to keep it cool during transit (also recommend long-term storage in either the freezer or refrigerator). All other products should be fine in any weather during shipping.
What does USP stand for?
USP stands for United States Pharmacopeia. The USP is an organization that maintains the quality of medicines for human and animal consumption. They are also responsible for developing authoritative information about the appropriate use of medicines.
Is a prescription needed to take your Lidtke L-Tryptophan?
None of Lidtke's consumer products containing L-Tryptophan require a prescription. Some of their products for specialty medical applications may require a prescription, but these are not advertised.
Is Lidtke Tryptophan organic? Is it Kosher?
There is no official standard that defines “organic” L-Tryptophan, so the term can be used very loosely. The molecule itself is an organic molecule, and there is nothing preventing a company from calling it “organic.” On the other hand, Lidtke can state that their L-Tryptophan is manufactured by natural fermentation, using glucose as a substrate, and no animal products are used in the process. As a consequence, they are the only company that can claim their product is officially Kosher.
How is Lidtke L-Tryptophan made?
As with nearly all amino acids that are produced for food or medicine, Lidtke L- Tryptophan is made by a natural fermentation process. It may seem surprising, but it would actually be much more expensive to make L-Tryptophan synthetically, and it would be even more expensive to extract it from common foods. Of course, new technologies keep changing, and someone may find an inexpensive way to make L-Tryptophan by another method. In any case, sophisticated purification methods must be used to ensure a product’s safety, and if they are not used, it will show up in chromatograms and other methods of testing for quality. These purification procedures are expensive, and they are the reason that they spend so much on our raw material. They could pay one-third as much as we do for raw material, but it has not been their choice to do so.
Is L-Tryptophan harmed by heat?
After studying L-Tryptophan’s melting characteristics in the chemistry lab, it can be said that Lidtke K-Tryptophan does not begin to decompose until about 460°F and does not melt until about 545°F. These are temperatures well in excess of those encountered in shipping.
Even when baking a turkey, the exterior temperatures may get fairly high, and you can see this because the skin starts to turn brown (decompose), but the interior of the turkey may be much lower, perhaps only 170°F. So even during baking, L-Tryptophan typically will remain unharmed, which is why you can still get nourishment from cooked food.
