Amazon Therapeutic Laboratories - Suma - 1 oz. (30 ml)

Amazon Therapeutic Laboratories Suma.  Native to Central and South America, Suma is a large ground vine the natives have long used to promote robust health as well as a general tonic. They called the vine Para Toda, which means “for all things”. Even though Suma has an ancient reputation of wide use, there has been few scientific studies to test its effectiveness. What is known about Suma is that it has a substance called an adaptogen, which means it helps people to adapt to stress and fight infection.

    More About Suma
Central and South America natives have used Suma to promote robust health for over 300 years. It is well know as a general tonic, being an adaptogen, it increases the body’s resistance to stress and has a restorative effect on the body as a whole. It has been called Para Toda, which means “for all things.” Suma has been taken by Russian Olympic athletes for many years to increase muscle building and endurance without the side effects of steroids because it contains an anabolic-type phytochemical called beta-ecdysterone.

Research shows that Suma contains high levels of saponin. Plant saponin have a wide range of activities that include lowering blood cholesterol, inhibiting cancer cell growth, and acting as antifungal and antibacterial agents. One specific saponin, pfaffoside, has shown the ability to inhibit tumor cell melanomas (in vivo), and help to regulate blood sugar levels (in vivo). It has also been shown to slow the growth of lymphoma and leukemia in mice and may delay mortality. Sickle cell anemia patients showed improvement and a higher quality of life with no side effects while taking Suma.6Other research has demonstrated analgesic and anti-inflammatory activities in various studies.  Another study shows that Suma is a sexual stimulant and aphrodisiac. No wonder it is called Para Toda!

    Amazon Therapeutic Labs
Amazon Therapeutic Laboratories originally came about as a collaboration between Jerome Black, Tom Baldwin, and Shannon Casey- 2 of his long term customers from the early days of the Oregon Exotics Fruit Nursery.

Residing on the big island of Hawaii, Tom and Shannon have since founded and manage a botanical sanctuary of their own known as ULUWEHI FARM & NURSERY, which features several acres of intensively cultivated tropical plants including hard to find Amazon medicinal and wild fruits in order to supply voucher samples for our laboratories.  Tom works with the living botanical germplasm of numerous tropical species and Shannon is a trained geneticist familiar with both temperate and tropical genetics.

Their experience with permaculture enables ATL to plan education seminars directly in the Amazon basin and other tropical regions. Together they are developing protocols for sustainable permaculture designs of tropical plant species for food, fiber, and medicines.  Tom and Shannon's participation ensures that ATL maintains an ethical approach to plant harvesting and sustainable organic cultivation.  Favored by top herbalists, practitioners, and retail stores who require quality, these are certified organic products of high integrity.]

    About Amazon Therapeutic Laboratories

    About Amazon Therapeutic Labs
They believe that empirical wisdom and modern science can combine important resources for a long term vision of biological health. They are adamant in support of indigenous land rights and intellectual property. Their trademarks and proprietary formulations are registered on behalf of indigenous societies in the Amazon Basin and Andes Mountains. A portion of each sale is designated to help protect natural heritage through conservation projects.

Some US-based pharmaceutical companies continue to lobby against traditional medicines while at the same time multinational companies comb the jungles and bio-prospect from raw material found within native lands, attempting to patent the very chemicals which are found within the traditional herbs themselves. Often, once a new drug is identified, some laboratories immediately seek ways to synthesize the drug in their laboratories, departing from natural medicine altogether. Once synthesized, the natural botanical is rendered into a synthetic substance which can them be patented and claimed. Sole rights over the distribution of the drug, and even the proprietary rights of use as a treatment for particular ailments, have been transferred from wild botanicals of world heritage origins, to a wholly-owned drug placed in the hands of a single company. Countries such as Brazil, Peru and India are now leading the charge to help protect their indigenous intellectual property rights. Amazon Bio-Therapeutic Laboratories participates in South American congressional meetings to help find equitable solutions to this growing dilemma.
