    Great Tasting Products:
Besides using quality ingredients to attain great taste NuGo specifically does two things that are not common in the nutrition industry.  Most nutrition bars are cold processed, a cheaper one step operation.   These bars tend to be dense and have a cardboard taste.  NuGo was more concerned with taste than saving cost.  NuGo is hot processed like fine bakery products requiring batching then heating, a two step process. This gives NuGo a lighter more flavorful taste.  In addition, we use REAL milk chocolate on NuGo and real dark chocolate on NuGo Organic, NuGo Dark and NuGO Free, not cheaper alternative chocolate flavored vegetable fat (palm or cottonseed) coatings that tastes too sweet or waxy.

    Impressive Nutritional Profiles:
NuGo is certified low glycemic with a formula that avoids sugar rushes, provides sustained energy, therefore metabolizes slowly in the body.  All NuGo products are also truly Trans-Fat (hydrogenated oils) & high fructose corn syrup free, ingredients that upscale clientele generally avoid.  Nugo products are high in protein and most contain a full compliment of vitamins & nutrients.

Real dark chocolate has all natural anti-oxidant benefits that protect your body from cell damage and lowers bad cholesterol while raising good (HDL) cholesterol.  The alternative chocolate flavored vegetable fat that all other bars use for chocolate enrobing is a saturated fat that raises your bad (LDL) cholesterol.

Their NuGo Free is the first and only gluten free protein bar. The Bars are certified Gluten free by the GF Certification Organization. This is an ever expanding category that is experiencing an explosive growth in sales and few products in the category.  In addition, the bars are soy & dairy free, therefore, free of most of the elements that cause allergic reactions.  Best of all the bars taste great by being a light baked bar enrobed in NuGo’s luscious Real Dark Chocolate or refreshing frosting.

    The Truth About Real Chocolate
NuGo is the only company to make real Dark Chocolate coated protein bars for many lifestyles.  Real Dark Chocolate is what you’ll find coating NuGo Dark, NuGo Organic, NuGo Free, and NuGo Slim protein bars. Unlike other protein bar manufacturers, NuGo never uses waxy vegetable fats (palm oil) in place of real, antioxidant-rich dark chocolate.

The FDA has not set a standard of identity for dark chocolate, allowing the consumer to be misled that they are eating dark chocolate while consuming fake chocolate flavored palm oil (saturated fat). Without a standard of identity, companies can call a product dark chocolate on the front of a package without using real dark chocolate ingredients!

Taste and Health Benefits of Real Chocolate

NuGo’s dark chocolate comes only from cocoa beans (cocoa butter and non-fat cocoa solids) and is a superfood.  For people with cholesterol levels within a normal range, real Dark Chocolate can help maintain good cholesterol (HDL). The vegetable fat in fake chocolate is an unhealthy saturated fat that can raise bad cholesterol (LDL) above normal ranges.

The fake chocolate coated snacks substitute vegetable fat, usually palm oil, for cocoa butter, which raises the melting temperature above body temperature, thus the chocolate doesn’t melt in your mouth creating a waxy texture and an overly sweet taste. Real dark chocolate homogenously melts at 89 – 93 degrees, below body temperature, exploding the dark chocolate flavor as it melts.  That’s why NuGo Dark chocolate coated protein snacks are so tasty compared to the competition.

Cocoa butter, the natural source of fat in real Dark Chocolate, is responsible for its smooth, creamy texture. Cocoa butter does not counteract the cholesterol lowering benefits of the cocoa bean – it is a neutral fat. The natural fat in chocolate, cocoa butter, is comprised of equal amounts of oleic acid (a heart-healthy monounsaturated fat also found in olive oil), stearic and palmitic acids. Research has shown* that stearic acid does not raise LDL cholesterol (bad cholesterol) as do most saturated fats. Stearic acid is converted in the liver to oleic acid, a heart healthy, monounsaturated fat. Few other fats are this heart-healthy.

    *Stearic acid research

Why would companies coat their snacks in fake dark chocolate?

They substitute vegetable fats (usually palm kernel oil) for cocoa butter in order to save money. Real dark chocolate must be tempered, and tempering takes time, costs money, and requires expertise. Making and transporting real Dark Chocolate requires the extra costs associated with climate controlled distribution.

Palm kernel and other vegetable oils raise the melting temperature of chocolate, therefore, they save money by not using climate control trucking. The higher melting temperature creates a waxy consistency and too-sweet taste because the chocolate doesn’t melt in your mouth.

How does eating snacks coated in fake dark chocolate affect cholesterol?

Vegetable fats have disadvantages that go beyond flavor. They are unhealthy saturated fats, outweighing the natural benefits of the cocoa bean. This means that replacing the neutral fat cocoa butter with palm kernel oil cancels out the health benefits found in the non-fat cocoa solids.

For people with cholesterol levels within a normal range, real Dark Chocolate can help maintain good cholesterol (HDL). The vegetable fat in fake chocolate is an unhealthy saturated fat that can raise bad cholesterol (LDL) above normal ranges.

How can you tell if a snack is made from real Dark Chocolate?

To date, the FDA has not mandated a standard of identity for real Dark Chocolate. This means companies using alternative vegetable fat coatings instead of real Dark Chocolate can mislead consumers when they label a flavor “dark chocolate,” even though it does not contain the health benefits or taste of real Dark Chocolate.

If you want to be sure you are eating the best tasting and healthiest chocolate on earth, check your labels! By law, if vegetable fat coatings are used, the ingredients list must state “chocolaty” or “chocolate flavored coating and vegetable oil.” That is the only way you would know it is not real dark chocolate. Sometimes the listing will illegally state dark chocolate coating. If the ingredients include alternative vegetable fats (palm oil, palm kernel oil, cottonseed oil, etc.), then it is not real dark chocolate.

If it’s a NuGo Dark chocolate coated protein bar, you’ll know it’s made with real Dark Chocolate.

I wasn't sure what to think when I took my first bite, but with each bite I began o like this bar more and more. I think the flavor builds as you consume the bar. Of course it is not as sweet as real carrot cake, but it is reminiscent of the flavor. Most importantly it Was filling.

    About NuGo Nutrition

We could say the genesis of Nugo (Nutrition to go) bars came to us in a brilliantly creative and inspired moment. But the truth is much different. It took lots of hard work and dedicated people to develop manufacture and distribute the best tasting nutrition bars on the market. Now the idea had a balanced plan: market an awesomely delicious family nutrition bar. With a small staff but devoted number of employees, the idea and the marketing plan exploded. Soon, with the support of investors and a very wise business sage, the startup company was at trade shows and on shelves. The phones were ringing and people wanted NuGo bars.
