Fair Trade Overview
Fair Trade Certification empowers farmers and farm workers to lift themselves out of poverty by investing in their farms and communities, protecting the environment, and developing the business skills necessary to compete in the global marketplace.
Fair Trade is much more than a fair price! Fair Trade principles include:
- Fair price: Democratically organized farmer groups receive a guaranteed minimum floor price and an additional premium for certified organic products. Farmer organizations are also eligible for pre-harvest credit.
- Fair labor conditions: Workers on Fair Trade farms enjoy freedom of association, safe working conditions, and living wages. Forced child labor is strictly prohibited.
- Direct trade: With Fair Trade, importers purchase from Fair Trade producer groups as directly as possible, eliminating unnecessary middlemen and empowering farmers to develop the business capacity necessary to compete in the global marketplace.
- Democratic and transparent organizations: Fair Trade farmers and farm workers decide democratically how to invest Fair Trade revenues.
- Community development: Fair Trade farmers and farm workers invest Fair Trade premiums in social and business development projects like scholarship programs, quality improvement trainings, and organic certification.
- Environmental sustainability: Harmful agrochemicals and GMOs are strictly prohibited in favor of environmentally sustainable farming methods that protect farmers' health and preserve valuable ecosystems for future generations. TransFair USA, a non-profit organization, is the only independent, third-party certifier of Fair Trade products in the U.S. and one of 20 members of Fairtrade Labeling Organizations International (FLO). TransFair's rigorous audit system, which tracks products from farm to finished product, verifies industry compliance with Fair Trade criteria. TransFair allows U.S. companies to display the Fair Trade Certified label on products that meet strict Fair Trade standards.
- Fair Trade Certification is currently available in the U.S. for coffee, tea and herbs, cocoa and chocolate, fresh fruit, sugar, rice, and vanilla.

Great combination of flavors - don't be afraid of the "chilies" ... might sound weird, but this tastes great!
-
Amazing ! My personal favorite of the Dagobas. Very good for a low cal , hot beverage especially if you like Chocolate, with a little spicy kick and want to kick a chocolate craving quick...healthy style. Also Fair Trade and Organic. Very Yummy.

The drink itself was tasty, but it makes no more than 6-8 cups of cocoa (8 oz.), and that's using only two tablespoons to the recommended four.
Do yourself a favor and buy a can of organic cocoa powder (or good brand such as Ghirardelli)--grab a ramekin and mix in 1.5 tablespoons cocoa with a dash of salt, dash of cayenne pepper and dash of cinnamon to taste, and 1 tablespoon of sugar.
Heat up milk on stove (add a splash of vanilla), whip with whisk, when frothy and as heat rises, pour in the cocoa powder mixture...stir more and ! VOILA ! you have a delicious drink for only pennies per cup (and even healthier, when you add Splenda or Stevia, instead of real sugar.)
Honest to goodness, it tasted identical to the Dagoba Organic Chocolate Xocolatl drink...except since you mixed the ingredients yourself, you can regulate how much sugar, how much cayenne, etc.
Best of all, you saved a ton of money, without compromising quality!

I adore this stuff. I put it on vanilla ice cream and mix it in and it is delicious. I figured out how to make it myself with baking chocolate powder, cinnamon, and cayenne pepper but it was almost just as expensive as buying it premixed here and with the luckyvitamin prices even better. Also the company is fair trade, etc. so that's great as well.

Great fun for a new taste. A local Mexican restaurant tried them too.
-
bought this while on vacation not knowing how great this would be or would have bought more. Great chocolate with a bit of a "kick". I don't think one can dublicate the qualiy of the product!!!!
-
I thought this hot cocoa would be more like cinnamon-y mexican cocoa, but it's actually really, really spicy in a completely unappealing way (to me) yet bitter and harsh. We threw it out
-
I really love the flavor of Dagoba Organic Chocolate. This is wonderful with my afternoon coffee.
-
This is delicious, would totally buy again.
