Hotteeze - Traditional Japanese Heat Therapy

Traditional Japanese Heat Therapy Heat pads have been used for decades in Japan to help keep the core body temperature stable. Heat is believed to boost the immune system and prevent colds and sickness. Ask your Japanese friends to explain what a "haramaki" is! The literal translation is "stomach roll" and these unique Japanese undergarments are still widely worn even today to keep the abdominal region warm and are usually made from stretchy cotton. The Japanese use heat pads and haramakis the way Westerners use an undershirt.   The Japanese also believe that the feet are the second heart and by keeping them warm, you keep healthy and "genki" by keeping your chi energy flowing from the tip of your toes all over the body.  Hotteeze Foot Pads will keep toes toasty for 5 cozy hours!

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. How does a Hotteeze work?
A.
Each Hotteeze heat pad contains iron powder, water, vermiculite, carbon and salt. When you open a Hotteeze, the iron oxidizes with the air, creating heat. If you accidentally open it up, quickly seal it in a plastic bag to stop the oxidization process.

Q. Why can't I wear it directly on my skin?
A.
You might burn yourself. Hotteeze will feel cozy at first, but after a while it will heat right up without you noticing and might feel too hot. You will probably start to sweat too, in which case the pad will slip off and you won't get your 12 hours of guaranteed heat.

Q. Why shouldn't I wear it to bed?
A.
If you fall asleep wearing a Hotteeze, you cannot properly monitor your comfort level. The heat might sneak up on you and cause a burn.

Q. Are they bad for the environment?
A.
Hotteeze contain natural ingredients which are biodegradable, so when they're done, you can throw them away guilt-free! Its contents can be reused as a soil conditioner, which contributes to the reduction of wastes. The outer packet is combustible and does not generate toxic gases.

Q. Where do they come from?
A.
Hotteeze were invented by the Japanese and are manufactured in Japan. Your Japanese friends will know them as Kairo. They are very popular and are recommended for various remedies. For example, if you catch a cold, a Japanese person will recommend that you stick a Hotteeze over your abdomen to help you recover more quickly.

Q. What if I'm pregnant?
A.
Whatever you do, do not put a Hotteeze near your abdomen, and check with your doctor before using it on any other part of your body.

Q. What if Hotteeze gets wet?
A.
If you get a Hotteeze wet, you can kiss it goodbye! The water will stop the oxidization process.

Q. What if my pet eats it?
A.
If swallowed, rinse the mouth with water and seek medical advice.

Q. Are Hotteeze safe to travel with, for example do they set off alarms, get picked up on x-ray machines, expire in the plane?
A. No they are completely safe and will not set off any alarms.

Q. Are they reusable?
A. No. Once the 12 hours of heat is finished, that's it! But - You can use the Hotteeze for half the time, pop it in an airtight bag to stop the oxidization process, and then keep using the rest of the hours of heat the next day.

Q. Can I use Hotteeze on my knee/elbow/shin/leg and other body parts?
A. Yes, but only through clothes. We recommend using a cloth flexible tube bandage that you can double over.

About Hotteeze

In 1998, Donna Burke, an expat from Perth, Australia living in Tokyo singing and doing voice over work, kept going to the chiropractor with a bad back. (The reason was she never did any exercise!) One day, the chiropractor gave her a stick-on heat pad to try when she got home.

Donna tried it and fell in love with the idea of a stick-on heater that soothed her muscles and lasted for 12 hours! On her next trip to Australia she bought loads for her family (she’s one of seven) and soon started having to pay excess baggage to keep up with the demand for heat pads from her family and friends. One day she sent various products from Japan to an entrepreneur in Sydney, who declared the Japanese heat pads a sure-fire winner. With the help of her singing manager, Donna tracked down a factory to make her own brand -- Hotteeze, the amazing stick-on heat pads.

Suggested Use
  • Open packet and peel backing
  • Place adhesive side of pad on outside of sock underneath toes, NEVER DIRECTLY TO SKIN (to avoid burns).
  • Use only inside closed shoes with socks. Take extra care when wearing thin socks or stockings
  • After opening, limit contact with the open air as foot pads can get too hot with too much oxygen. However, excessively tight shoes may limit oxygen and result in inadequate heating
  • Keep pad dry at all times as water will prevent activation. Store in a cool dry place out of direct sunlight and out of read of children and pets

One pad? Unless something went terribly wrong, most of us have 2 feet. Why only one pad per package, then? It makes no sense. Double the packaging to do what Toasty Toes or another brand does. Made in Japan, of course!
