SinusCleanse Nasal washing (also known as nasal irrigation or jala neti) is a personal hygiene practice that involves flooding the nasal cavity with warm saline solution (salt water). This soothing action removes excess mucus and moisturizes the nasal cavity.

Nasal Washing Safety
Washing the nose with saline solution is a centuries-old practice that improves sinus and nasal health for millions of people around the world.  Nasal washing with a neti pot is recommended by doctors for patients who suffer from various sinus and nasal conditions. The cleanliness of the solution used in the nose is, of course, of critical importance.

Naegleri fowleri is a rare amoeba that can live in warm stagnant water. If this amoeba enters the nose, it can travel into the brain where it can cause a rapidly fatal infection. This infection is exceptionally rare, and in the United States, can be contracted after swimming or diving in lakes or hot springs mostly in the southern part of the country and usually between the July and September months when water temperatures are consistently over 80 degrees. The amoeba organism cannot survive in salt water, in properly treated swimming pools or municipal water supplies, or in water heated to over 117 degrees Farenheit (water boils at 212 degrees Farenheit).

Concern has recently arisen about nasal washing being another way to introduce water contaminated by Naegleri fowleri into the nose.
