Solaray Lobelia (Lobelia Inflata) 50 mg.
Lobelia grows throughout North America. The leaves are primarily used in herbal medicine.
Historical or traditional use (may or may not be supported by scientific studies)
Eclectic physicians, early North American doctors who used herbs as their primary medicine, considered lobelia to be one of the most important medicinal plants. It was used by Eclectics to treat coughs and spasms in the lungs from varying causes, as well as spasms elsewhere in the body, including the intestines and ureters (passages from the kidney to the bladder). Lobelia was also considered a useful pain reliever and in higher amounts was used to induce vomiting in people who had been poisoned.
The alkaloid lobeline is responsible for most of lobelia’s actions. Lobeline has been used as a traditional herbal approach to help people stop smoking. Results of human trials using lobeline for smoking cessation have been mixed and generally negative. Preliminary trials suggest lobeline may improve lung function, perhaps by its abilities to reduce bronchial constriction and to thin mucus so that it can be coughed out.
Some authorities attach great value to it as an expectorant in bronchitis, others as a valuable counterirritant when combined with other ingredients in ointment form. It is sometimes given in convulsive and inflammatory disorders such as epilepsy, tetanus, diphtheria and tonsilitis. There is also difference of opinion with regard to its narcotic properties. Where relaxation of the system is required, as, for instance, to subdue spasm, Lobelia is invaluable. Relaxation can be counteracted by the stimulating and tonic infusion of capsicum. It may be used as an enema.True Selection
Externally, an infusion has been found useful in ophthalmia, and the tincture can be used as a local application for sprains, bruises, or skin diseases, alone, or in powder combined with an equal part of slippery elm bark and weak lye-water in a poultice. The oil of Lobelia is valuable in tetanus. One drop of oil triturated with one scruple of sugar, and divided into from 6 to 12 doses, is useful as an expectorant, nauseant, sedative, and diaphoretic, when given every one or two hours.

Every Solaray™ product is subjected to rigorous testing and screening protocols. The process may vary by ingredient, but typically includes organoleptic (taste, touch, smell) testing to compare it to previous batches, and lab assays for microbial, identity, purity and potency validation. Only when an ingredient has passed all of the required assays is it released to manufacturing. Solaray adheres to all current good manufacturing practices (cGMP) and an independent auditing firm audits Solaray's facilities, laboratory and manufacturing protocols for compliance with the latest regulations. Green Screened
The Green Screened logo represents their commitment at Solaray to providing herbs of the utmost quality. The Solaray brand employs quality control standards in all areas of product development - from ensuring identification and authenticity by laboratory analysis to screening for microbes, herbicides and pesticides to heavy metal testing. Solaray rejects herbs they suspect are irradiated. Only after Solaray's laboratory analysis program confirms that the herbs meet Solaray's strict standards do they give the product their Green Screened approval.
