Flora has been manufacturing and supplying quality herbal remedies for distribution in Canada since 1965, but their roots stretch back to Germany in the early 1900's, where Dr. Otto Greither, grandfather of the current owner Thomas Greither, dedicated his life to the discovery, production and distribution of natural health care products. The company has preserved his original dedication to perfect European herbal remedies that ensure maximum purity, quality and potency with a holistic approach to health and to provide quality, pure, organic products wherever possible.
Flora Salus Haus Floradix Calcium-Magnesium with Zinc & Vitamin D 250 ml
Flora SalusHaus Floradix Calcium Magnesium liquid is ideal for anyone who needs to supplement more calcium into their daily diet. Floradix Calcium Magnesium is a liquid mineral supplement with Zinc and Vitamin D, herbal extracts and fruit concentrates. Floradix Calcium-Magnesium is also a good source of calcium and magnesium, and is easy to assimilate.
Both calcium and magnesium are critical for strong bones, however; the average person's intake of these minerals is imbalanced. The ratio of calcium consumption far outweighs that of magnesium consumption, which affects their subsequent absorption and utilization and sets the stage for weak bones and over-calcification of the body.
New studies are showing us that the best way to maintain the health of our bones is not through increased calcium intake alone, but rather through the regular use of a balanced calcium magnesium supplement that effectively addresses the many complicated issues that prevent the adequate absorption and proper utilization of calcium. One like Floradix Calcium Magnesium.
Understanding Calcium Supplements
Daily Supplemental Requirements You should not try to fulfill your daily calcium requirements with a supplement. Your diet will already provide you with a portion of the RDI, (based on dietary calcium), and you should rely on a high quality supplement to provide the remainder. This encourages a more beneficial ratio of calcium to magnesium consumption.
Dosage Due to the high solubility of Floradix Calcium Magnesium, its dosage is able to be much lower than most other supplements while still providing the same utilizable amount of calcium, in many cases even more! This kind of solubility is created through the form of the supplement (liquid) and the forms of calcium (lactate and gluconate).
Liquid vs. Solid The average person's body will only dissolve 20% of most solid supplements and will eliminate the remaining 80% possibly causing constipation, gas and bloating. A liquid solution does not need to be dissolved, so approximately 98% of the elemental amount will be available for absorption.
Rates of Absorption Calcium in supplements occurs in a compound form. The component that calcium is bound to is called the compound or form of calcium and the calcium itself is called elemental. The less soluble the compound is, (citrate is less than lactate is less than gluconate) the more elemental calcium is available but the lower the absorption rate. For example, the same amount of calcium gluconate contains less elemental calcium than citrate, but is absorbed at a higher rate because gluconic acid is more soluble than citric acid. Dietary calcium is absorbed at an average rate of 10-30% and most calcium supplements are absorbed at rates anywhere between 4% and 45% depending on the forms of calcium used. Floradix Calcium Magnesium provides the highest rate of absorption possible with a combination of calcium lactate and gluconate, which boast absorption rates of 45% and 50% respectively.
Calcium Compounds Of the four top selling calcium compounds on the market:
Calcium Carbonate is inorganic, insoluble in liquid, requires stomach acid and vitamin D for absorption and its absorption rate plateaus after approximately 500mg.
Calcium Citrate is organic and soluble but when taken in large enough quantities in liquid to have a positive impact on your health, its taste is very bitter. However, it is a good choice for use in a solid supplement.
Calcium Lactate and Gluconate are organic, have a pleasant taste and are both highly soluble in liquid form. Most importantly, they do not rely only on active transport sites, located at the beginning of the small intestine, for absorption. These sites are vitamin D dependent and are limited as to the amount of calcium that they can take in. Only a soluble calcium compound, such as calcium lactate or gluconate, can also take advantage of the independent passive diffusion sites in the more alkaline environment at the end of the small intestine. These sites allow absorption regardless of stomach acid levels.
Co-Factors for Proper Utilization Magnesium is a key factor for bone strength. Sufficient amounts are required to ensure proper calcium utilization, thereby preventing calcium deposits in soft tissue. A study by Dr. Abraham that used a 1.2:1 magnesium to calcium ratio, along with co-factors, resulted in a significant 11% increase in bone mass compared to only 0.7% in the control group. Floradix Calcium Magnesium uses this higher ratio of magnesium to help properly utilize both supplemented and dietary calcium and to address the increasing problem of over-calcification of the body.
Vitamin D has been added to facilitate the adequate absorption of calcium (including dietary sources) at the vitamin D dependant, active transport sites.
Zinc has been added to assist bone matrix synthesis.
Floradix Calcium Magnesium is a smart choice for any adult concerned with improving or maintaining their bone health. Specially formulated to be effective in all areas of calcium absorption and utilization, Floradix Calcium Magnesium safely and effectively maintains bone health over a lifetime.

About Flora At Flora, they have been manufacturing and supplying premium herbal products since 1965, but their roots stretch back to Germany in the early 1900s, where Dr. Otto Greither, grandfather of the current owner Thomas Greither, dedicated his life to the discovery, production and distribution of natural health care products. Flora has preserved his original dedication to perfect and make available herbal remedies that ensure maximum purity, quality and potency with a holistic approach to health.
In God We Trust The mission of Flora is to participate in the continuing evolution of the people on Earth toward universal harmony, peace and perfection by providing products and services for the purification and upliftment of the body and spirit, and by providing to each person who derives a livelihood with Flora, an opportunity for personal growth and advancement of these goals in life.
History In 1965, Flora began its North American operations in Burnaby, British Columbia, and is currently owned by natural health visionary Thomas Greither. Originally, Thomas ran a natural foods store in Burlington, Vermont, and it was his dream to produce and provide consumers with the finest health products available.
In its early stages, Flora served primarily as a centre for distributing and marketing European herbal remedies. At that time, alternative health products were virtually unknown in Canada. As interest grew, Flora began manufacturing natural bulk laxatives and its own line of herbal therapeutic teas. These teas were the first of their kind to be prepared in Canada and their popularity soon blossomed.
In 1986, Flora resumed its role as a pioneer when it produced the first truly cold-pressed, unrefined oils for medicinal use or food preparation. A unique manufacturing method eliminates any light or oxygen and allows the enzymes in the seed matter to be processed at body temperature and the essential fatty acids to remain active.
In 1988, Flora expanded into the U.S., opening a manufacturing facility in Lynden, Washington. The company also acquired several acres of farmland in order to grow its own organic herbs. All stages of production are done in-house in Burnaby and Lynden, from selecting and lab testing all raw materials to herb extraction, encapsulation and final packaging.
In June of 1992, in cooperation with Elaine Alexander, the company began preparing and distributing the remarkable herbal formula known as Flor•Essence™. Its popular effect in exerting a positive influence on a host of chronic conditions has rapidly spread throughout the health community and is revered by people everywhere for its life-rejuvenating benefits. Flora also launched a foundational line of health products under the Udo's Choice™ label including the first age-specific probiotics and vegetarian DHA.
Today, Flora continues its innovation in product development and environmentally friendly manufacturing practices.
Premium Quality Flora has evolved into one of North America's premier natural health products companies. The U.S. and Canadian production plants include sophisticated semi-automatic and fully automatic equipment for processing quality herbal teas and liquid tonics, encapsulating herbal extracts and cold-pressing certified organic seeds into health-benefitting oils. Flora's ongoing research and development has resulted in a number of production methods which are the finest in the world.
All of Flora's products are manufactured in accordance with GMP standards and the facilities and manufacturing procedures are in compliance with all regulatory agencies in Canada and the United States, including Health Canada and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). In addition, Flora is a certified organic producer and processor overseen by the third-party certifying agency, Quality Assurance International, (QAI). This means that the organic herbal remedies prepared and distributed by Flora are guaranteed top quality and chemical free, right from the seed that is planted to the harvest and from the post-harvest facilities to the final production and packing.
Thomas Greither is dedicated to preserving the environment and in utilizing production and packaging practices that are ecologically sound, including vegetarian capsules for all the dry herbal extracts and environmentally friendly amber glass bottles for the herbal tonics and organic oils.
Flora has been honoured with numerous awards and continually strives to remain a leader in the field of natural health by remaining committed to its mandate of offering only supreme quality formulas.
Flora Farms Flora grows most of its own herbs on farms in Washington and Chile and purchases the rest through fair trade practices from organic farmers. "We are one of the very few companies who actually grow our own herbs," says Thomas Greither. "If we buy from another farm, we know what seed they used, and we always receive the herbs in the whole form. You can tell if it was dried properly and handled properly. Most companies buy them powdered. We have a whole grinding department. Each herb needs a different cutting mechanism, and we cut them just before manufacturing. With essential herbs, if I grind them a half a year before manufacturing, that would not be as effective. Sometimes the industry gets a bad name because of the use of these dried herbs. Essential oils oxidize out of the product. For example, in our teas, we have a special vapour moisture barrier so the essential oils from the product can't evaporate; it preserves freshness."
The certified organic farm in Chile lies on 1500 acres of land that has never been intensively farmed, and was thoroughly tested before cultivation began to ensure it was free of pollutants such as chemical fertilizers. The farm is set in a pristine paradise cut off by the deserts in the north, the waters of the Antarctic in the south, the Andes (with a height of 5,500 metres) in the east and the Pacific Ocean in the west. This natural enclosing wall protects from plant diseases and insects, and there are no city exhaust fumes or sources of industrial pollution for many kilometres.
Today, approximately 100 different raw materials are supplied here, from more than 80 plant species. Once harvested, the plants are dried using the world's most advanced eco-friendly solar dryers.
