Diva International - The Diva Cup New Menstrual Solution(post-childbirth and/or over 30) Model 2- 1 Cup(s)
The Diva Cup by Diva International is a modern version of this proven concept that has been redesigned with the latest technology in molding and materials. The DivaCup by Diva International is an approved by the FDA (USA) and Health Canada. The Diva Cup is made of soft medical grade silicone, which is latex-free, 100% hypoallergenic and odorless. For over 50 years, silicone has been safely and extensively used in products for the health care industry. In the 1930's the innovative menstrual cup was invented as a form of internal feminine protection.
Since The DivaCup is reusable, it is very economical. As well, you can feel confident that you are doing your part in environmental conservation. Landfill and pollution problems are on the rise and continue to be a worldwide concern. In 1998, 7 billion tampons and 13 billion sanitary pads and their packaging made their way into landfills and sewage systems in the USA alone! The DivaCup is very sanitary, comfortable, reliable and convenient. It holds one full ounce (30 ml). Since the entire cycle is an average of 3-4 ounces (90-120 ml), most women find that the cup is not even half full after 12 hours.
The vagina is continually self-cleansing, washing away dead cells and bacteria. Tampons absorb the natural fluids that we need to keep the vagina clean and moist. The DivaCup is non-absorbent and simply collects the menstrual flow, leaving the natural moisture level in the vagina undisturbed.
Depending on your flow empty the cup 2-3 times per 24 hour day, wash and reinsert. It can be worn up to 12 hours, even overnight. The DivaCup is ideal for all activities including swimming, camping, backpacking, and travelling. It is suitable for all menstruating women of all ages.
The DivaCup is available in two models:
- Model 1: For women under 30 years old who have never delivered vaginally or by cesarean section.
- Model 2: For women over 30 years old and/or for women who have delivered vaginally or by c-section.
The Model 1 cup is 1 11/16" (~4.3 cm) in diameter and the Model 2 cup is 1 13/16" (~4.6 cm) in diameter. Both cups are approximately 2 1/4" (~5.7 cm) in length in the body of the cup, with another 3/8" (~1 cm) stem (2 5/8" total length). The stem may be trimmed to adjust for comfort.
There is a small difference between the two sizes (Model 1 is 1/8" (~0.3 cm) smaller), but it is important to use the recommended sizing to prevent leakage.
It is recommended Model 2 if you are 30 or over 30 years old, because as we age, our hips naturally widen and the vaginal muscles lose elasticity. Because the vaginal muscles hold The DivaCup in place, it is important to use Model 2 if you are over 30, even if you have not had childbirth.
Be a "Green" Diva
Think about the waste from tampons and/or pads that you toss in the trash or flush down the toilet each month. Yikes. You can join women around the world who are increasingly aware of how they can make a significant, positive environmental impact by switching from disposable tampons and pads to The DivaCup. Have you switched from plastic bags to canvas? Probably. Have you ever thought about how much waste your feminine hygiene products are creating? Probably not. Switching to The DivaCup is as significant as switching from plastic to canvas bags!
The DivaCup is reusable and made from silicone. This makes it an important, environmentally responsible feminine hygiene choice! Women, on average, experience a lifetime menstruation span of 41 years (11-52). From use of disposable feminine hygiene, an estimated 12 billion sanitary pads and 7 billion tampons are dumped into the North American environment each year (1998). More than 170,000 tampon applicators were collected along U.S. coastal areas between 1998 and 1999. Their revolutionary, reusable product is a modern, viable alternative to disposable tampons and pads.
Do your own math...Multiply the number of pads/tampons you use each month by twelve. Then, multiply that figure by 41 years - the average woman's menstruation span. For argument's sake, let's pick the figure of 4 tampons/pads per day, for 5 days. That's 20 disposable products per cycle. Twelve cycles per year equals 240 tampons/pads per year. Okay, now if you menstruate for 41 years...that's close to 10,000 tampons/pads you'll use in your lifetime! Using The DivaCup eliminates almost all of this waste. That's something you can feel good about - even when you're crampy and moody.
Most tampons and pads contain surfactants, adhesives and additives. To us, that sounds like a bunch of stuff you don't want near - or inside! - your body. In addition, most pads contain polyethylene plastic whose production is a pollutant. Also, dioxin, a known carcinogen, is a by-product of the bleaching process of tampons containing rayon. In landfills, many of these substances can leach into the environment (groundwater, streams and lakes) causing serious pollution and health concerns.
Although not all women can afford to purchase an energy-efficient hybrid car or convert their home to solar energy, they can reduce dangerous landfill waste by choosing to use a reusable, silicone menstrual cup. When considering the pollution and volume of waste that is inherent in the use of disposable tampons and pads, replacing one’s feminine hygiene with The DivaCup makes good environmental sense and manifests in a positive eco-footprint every month!
The Diva Cup Story
The menstrual cup was first developed in the 1930's. It was made from rubber latex (an allergen for many). Millions were sold in those first years by multiple companies. Because of management issues, the companies closed and menstrual cups were hard to find. Then over 15 years ago, Francine recognized the need for an alternative to unreliable disposable tampons and pads and found a company offering menstrual cups. She and her daughter, Carinne, singlehandedly resurrected the 75 year old menstrual cup concept by reintroducing this product to the world market when it was virtually unknown. They sold this rubber/latex version for 10 years.
In 2003, drawing on their experience and expert knowledge about the menstrual cup category, they developed a modern redesign, made from soft, top-quality silicone, to meet the needs of today’s woman. They launched their own company, Diva International. Their revolutionary concept, The DivaCup, is patent-pending and ISO certified. Today, The DivaCup is the preferred choice.
The DivaCup Team has over 38 years of combined experience in natural feminine hygiene alternatives. Their passion is to provide women an environmentally responsible, convenient and reliable alternative to tampons and pads.
"Not every woman can afford a hybrid car nor easily convert their home to solar power. Yet, by choosing to use a menstrual cup instead of disposable tampons and pads, any woman is able to make an environmentally responsible choice each month. This is no small matter. In the U.S. alone, billions of tampons and pads are dumped into landfills and the environment each year." Carinne Chambers
"With all the state-of-the-art conveniences Western society has developed, it baffles us why outdated feminine products are still being used. We believe that reusable menstrual cups are the next generation of feminine hygiene because they are the most environmentally responsible choice. They are also the most convenient and reliable option available and are not linked to Toxic Shock Syndrome." Francine Chambers.
